Lead Service Line Inventory, Sampling and Replacement
On December 16, 2021 the Lead and Copper Line Rule was revised. It states that all lead service lines be identified and replaced. While there is no safe level of lead for human consumption, the EPA maximum contaminant level states the actionable level is set at 15ppb. (parts per billion)
Therefore, you may be required to participate in providing water samples from your tap. You may also be required to test the water service line material where it enters the home. You may be asked for a physical inspection which may require producing a photograph of the material, or allowing a water district employee, or other water professional, access to your home for verification. When this occurs, follow all written and verbal directions precisely. This is a requirement for Missouri Dept. of Natural Resources and the EPA, (Environmental Protection Agency). This new law is for the detection and elimination/replacement of all water lines that may contain lead above the acceptable limit.
